Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said all ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz must coordinate with Iranian forces on VHF Channel 16. It warned that vessels using routes not approved by Iran or failing to comply with its instructions “will be dealt with.” The IRGC also called recently announced transit routes without Tehran’s coordination unacceptable and extremely dangerous.
The warning came even as shipping activity resumed after the U.S.-Iran agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Maritime analytics firm Kpler said more than 20 oil tankers carrying about 35 million barrels of crude have already passed through the strait. Most of these non-Iranian vessels had been stranded in the Gulf for over three months and are expected to reach Asia in early August.
Oil prices fell on Thursday as markets reacted to improving global crude supplies. Citigroup said easing tensions could bring Brent crude down to around $60-65 per barrel over the next 6-12 months as normal shipping resumes and commodity markets stabilize.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump asked the U.S. Congress to approve nearly $88 billion to cover Iran war costs, disaster recovery and farm aid. The proposal includes $67.1 billion for the Pentagon, including $21 billion to replace weapons used during the four-month Middle East conflict, $17.3 billion for military operations, $1.7 billion for readiness and $1.5 billion for fuel.
Trump also said U.S. personnel will take part in International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspections of Iranian nuclear facilities. He said Iran has agreed to allow inspections but noted Tehran had made similar promises in the past and later failed to honor them. He added he is not pushing for inspectors to enter Iran immediately.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Washington’s 60-day sanctions waiver for Iran as temporary. He said the U.S. expects Tehran to fully comply with commitments made in Switzerland, warning that President Trump could reimpose sanctions or take other actions if Iran fails to meet its obligations.
U.S. President Donald Trump says the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela have caused devastating loss of life. He said the United States is ready to assist and has directed all government agencies to prepare for a rapid response, adding, “We will be there for our new and great friends. Early reports are not good.”
