“We have completed the deal with Iran,” President Donald Trump said. He announced the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of the US naval blockade, calling it a major step toward regional peace.
Trump said the agreement will bring “Peace and Security” to the Middle East. He claimed previous US presidents failed to reach such a breakthrough and said regional leaders have finally found a path to lasting peace.
Iran Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi said the memorandum of understanding has been finalized and will be signed in Switzerland on June 19. The draft text was reportedly prepared with assistance from Islamabad.
Iran said it will immediately and permanently stop military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, starting tonight. Tehran also said the US maritime blockade on Iran will end tonight.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham welcomed the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz but warned that Iran and the US may have different interpretations of the deal. He said any nuclear agreement must be reviewed and voted on by Congress.
The UK, France, Germany and Italy said they are prepared to lift related sanctions on Iran if a final agreement ends the conflict and addresses Iran’s nuclear program. Qatar also welcomed the memorandum, while UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons.
Markets reacted strongly. WTI crude oil futures fell 4.5%, while Nasdaq futures rose about 1%. Ship tracking data also showed LNG tanker Disha, stranded in the Persian Gulf for more than three months, moving toward the Strait of Hormuz after reports of the agreement.

Update: An Israeli newspaper reports Netanyahu told Trump Israel is not bound by the Lebanon clause and will not withdraw forces. Netanyahu stated the IDF will stay deployed in Lebanon, continue operations, and respond to Hezbollah attacks. Al Arabiya reported the Israeli cabinet backs this policy. Tel Aviv insists on its security interests in Lebanon.
Israeli minister Ben-Gvir states that Trump’s agreement does not bind Israel. Israel must defend its citizens and soldiers as an independent, sovereign nation, not subordinate to the US. He rejects the agreement as non-binding and insufficient for security. Key demands include: dismantling Hezbollah, retaining all captured territories cleared of terrorist infrastructure, preventing terrorists from remaining near northern communities, and refusing silence against any fire on Israel.
Defense Minister Israel Katz says Israel will keep IDF forces in security zones across Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza without a time limit, rejecting calls for withdrawal. He says all terrorist infrastructure above and below ground will be destroyed, border areas will be secured, and local threats removed. Katz added that Israel will respond forcefully to any attack, including from Iran, and remains committed to protecting its citizens and national security.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich says the Iran agreement is bad for Israel and the free world. The joint campaign weakened Iran and will not be wasted. Israel must continue efforts to topple the regime in creative ways and ensure Iran never gets nuclear weapons.
