NSE has also specified the execution priority for orders during the process. Market orders against market orders will receive the first priority based on time priority.
Residual market orders against limit orders will receive the second priority based on price-time priority. The remaining limit orders against limit orders will be executed under the third priority, also based on price-time priority.
CAS Records ₹39,718 Crore on Index Rebalancing Day
The revised timings come after the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) recorded ₹39,718 crore, or approximately USD 4.2 billion, in turnover through the Closing Auction Session (CAS) on August 31, 2026.
The session accounted for 22% of NSE’s total cash market turnover that day and recorded a market share of 99.9%. More than 98,000 unique investors participated in the session, while turnover was approximately 42 times that recorded in the previous trading session.
The high activity was driven by the MSCI August 2026 Index Review, which took effect at the close of trading on August 31, according to NSE.
The August 31 session also marked the completion of CAS’s first month. During this period, NSE recorded cumulative CAS turnover of ₹63,000 crore, or approximately USD 6.6 billion, with a market share of 98.2%.
