The DAC defence acquisition proposals worth about ₹1.10 lakh crore received Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) on September 7, 2026, covering major requirements of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, granted in-principle administrative approval for the proposed acquisitions, according to the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
Approximately 98% of the procurements approved under the AoNs are expected to be sourced from Indian industry.
Indian Army Gets Approval for Vehicles, Helicopters and Bridge Systems
The Indian Army received approval for the procurement of Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Recce Vehicles, High Mobility Vehicles (HMV), Self-Propelled Mechanical Mine Layers (MML), Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs), Trawl Tanks and the Sarvatra Bridge System.
The CBRN Recce Vehicles will be used to detect, identify, monitor and mark areas contaminated by CBRN agents.
The High Mobility Vehicles are intended to strengthen operational capability, logistics support and mobility in difficult terrain. The Mechanical Mine Layers will support fast and responsive minelaying operations in challenging terrain.
Advanced Light Helicopters will undertake complex missions across different terrains and operational situations for the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. Trawl Tanks and the Sarvatra Bridge System will support fighting formations by enabling composite crossings during operations in varied terrain.
Navy and Air Force Acquisition Plans
For the Indian Navy, the DAC approved the procurement of Arudhra Radars and the design, development and subsequent procurement of Marine Gas Turbines (MGT).
The Arudhra Radars will replace existing Air Route Surveillance Radars at various Naval Air Stations. The Marine Gas Turbines, used for warship propulsion, are intended to reduce dependence on foreign vendors.
The Indian Air Force received approval for proposals aimed at improving the war-fighting capability of fighters, transport aircraft and helicopters.
The DAC also approved the procurement of Ground-Based Multi-Purpose Jammers (GBMPJ) and the installation of the Defence Forces Secure Access Card (DEFSAC) System. The GBMPJ will provide jamming capability against adversaries’ radars, while DEFSAC will replace paper-based identity cards, passes and permits with interoperable Radio Frequency Identification-based smart cards.
