Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a thorough investigation into the recent security breach at the parliament. In an interview with Dainik Jagran, Modi expressed the severity of the incident and emphasized the need for an in-depth inquiry, dismissing calls from opposition parties for a parliamentary debate.
The breach occurred last week when a man entered the lower house chamber, shouted slogans, and set off a smoke canister during a session. Six people were arrested, with terrorism charges filed against four. The intruders were apprehended by lawmakers and security personnel. Interestingly, this incident coincided with the 22nd anniversary of a previous attack on the parliament complex.
Reports suggest that the individuals involved in the breach chanted slogans, including expressing opposition to dictatorship. Some family members of the suspects mentioned their frustration with prolonged unemployment. In response to the disruption caused by the incident, 14 lawmakers have been suspended for demanding a discussion and statement from Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Speaker of the lower house has announced a security review in the aftermath of the breach, while the government has accused opposition parties of attempting to politicize the situation. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions and concerns about security within the Indian parliament.
