Companies are starting to test Huawei’s new Ascend 910C chips, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Huawei is talking to potential buyers to secure large orders for the 910C chip, says the Wall Street Journal.
Huawei aims to begin shipping the 910C chip as soon as October, according to sources reported by the Wall Street Journal.
The 910C chip is designed by Huawei to compete with Nvidia in the AI hardware market, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Last year, U.S. regulators imposed restrictions that prevented Nvidia from selling its advanced chips, including the H100, to Chinese buyers due to national security concerns.
In response, Nvidia released three new chips designed specifically for the Chinese market, including the highly scrutinized H20 chips. However, to comply with U.S. sanctions, the H20’s computing power was significantly limited compared to the H100 chips.
Companies like ByteDance, Baidu, and China Mobile are seeking to acquire the 910C chips.
Early discussions between Huawei and prospective buyers suggest that orders could exceed 70,000 chips, with an estimated total value of about $2 billion, according to the report.
