President Donald Trump said he would issue a Trump Dividend of $5,000 to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans win both the House and Senate in the November midterm elections, while also renewing his warning that the United States could strike Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain nuclear facility.
Speaking at a Republican midterm gathering in Dallas, Texas, Trump said the proposed $5,000 payment would carry one stated condition: the money must be spent within the United States. He provided no further details about the proposal.
Trump told supporters that if Republicans win control of both chambers of Congress, every adult citizen would receive $5,000 under what he called the Trump Dividend.
Trump campaigns for Republican midterm victory
Trump said he needed Republicans to win the upcoming midterm elections to protect what he described as gains made by his administration.
He acknowledged the historical pattern of the president’s party losing congressional seats in midterm elections but said Republicans would change that outcome. Trump also said he would visit every midterm battleground state before November, campaign for House and Senate candidates, hold rallies and visit some states twice.
He told supporters to consider him on the ballot as well and repeated his claim that Republicans perform well when he is running. Trump again asserted that he won the presidential election three times, including the 2020 election, despite losing both the popular vote and Electoral College to Joe Biden.
Trump also said New Mexico should be renamed “New America” and suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz “Trump Strait.”
Trump renews warning over Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain
Trump also said on September 9 that the United States may strike Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain nuclear facility and warned Tehran to be careful.
The site is located near the heavily damaged Natanz uranium-enrichment facility and includes two deep underground tunnel complexes. Trump has threatened strikes against Pickaxe Mountain multiple times since mid-July but did not carry them out.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghaei said on July 22 that there was no nuclear activity at Pickaxe Mountain and described U.S. attention on the site as a pretext for aggression.
Trump defended the U.S.-Iran war as necessary to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. He said criticism of the conflict often focused on higher gasoline prices and maintained that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon justified the war.
Trump said the United States would prevail in the war with Iran and that Iran was collapsing. He also said the war would be over shortly after the November election and claimed the United States was now more powerful than OPEC.
