China Restricts Usage of Intel and AMD Chips in Government Computers, Reports FT

China has announced guidelines to restrict the use of US-made chips from Intel and AMD in government PCs and servers. Additionally, they aim to replace Microsoft’s Windows OS and foreign database software with domestic alternatives, as part of their strategy to enhance self-reliance in technology.

As per the FT report, Chinese officials have commenced adhering to the guidelines introduced in December. The newspaper stated that they have instructed government agencies above the township level to incorporate criteria mandating “safe and reliable” processors and operating systems in their procurement processes.
