Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held meetings with senior executives of leading US companies in New York this week, focusing on opportunities to expand trade, investment and business engagement between India and the United States.

The meetings covered sectors including financial services, manufacturing, technology, artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, quantum computing, insurance, energy and consumer goods. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Goyal also invited leading US companies to explore investment opportunities in India.

Blackstone, Neuberger Berman and General Atlantic Discuss Investments

Goyal met Blackstone President and COO Jonathan Gray and Prakash Melwani, Chairman of Blackstone’s International Private Equity business. Discussions focused on expanding Blackstone’s investments and partnerships in India.

He also met Neuberger Berman Chairman and CEO George Walker and members of its senior leadership team. The discussions covered deeper investment linkages and greater engagement in financial and wealth management services.

With General Atlantic Chairman and CEO William E. Ford, Goyal discussed opportunities to further expand the investment firm’s business engagement with India.

IBM, MetLife and AIA Discuss India Opportunities

Goyal’s meeting with IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna focused on strengthening IBM’s engagement in India and expanding cooperation in AI, cloud infrastructure, quantum computing and other emerging technologies.

With MetLife President and CEO Michel A. Khalaf, the discussions centred on the company’s growth opportunities in India and the country’s expanding insurance and financial services sector.

Goyal also met AIA Group Non-Executive Chairman Mark Tucker. Their discussions covered AIA’s engagement in India and opportunities in insurance and financial services, including in the context of India’s vision of ‘Insurance for All by 2047’.

Estée Lauder Eyes Manufacturing and Sourcing Opportunities

Goyal met The Estée Lauder Companies President and CEO Stéphane de La Faverie to discuss growth opportunities in India, including increased manufacturing and sourcing.

The discussions also covered India’s growing beauty and personal care market.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the New York meetings provided a platform to discuss India’s growth prospects and investment opportunities across multiple sectors and ways to further strengthen India-US economic and commercial ties.
