US Hits Iran Again After Tanker Attack, Tehran Strikes Back

The conflict between the United States and Iran has intensified again. Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported explosions near the Sirik area in southern Iran after several shells hit a communications tower. US media outlet Axios, citing US officials, said the US military launched fresh strikes on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz in response to Iran’s attack on a commercial oil tanker.

CENTCOM said the latest US strikes came after Iran used a one-way attack drone to destroy the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Kiku, which was carrying more than 2 million barrels of crude oil. The US said the operation was aimed at stopping Iran’s repeated attacks on merchant ships in the region.

According to CENTCOM, US aircraft targeted Iranian military surveillance and communications facilities, air-defense systems, drone storage sites, coastal radar stations and mine-laying equipment. The strikes followed an earlier round of US attacks that were launched after Iran’s previous attack on the merchant vessel M/V EverLovely.

President Trump said Iran had violated the ceasefire again and warned that “the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist” if the escalation continues. He said US forces struck Iranian missile and drone storage sites as well as coastal radar installations in response to Iran’s actions.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it retaliated by launching missiles and drones at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and several US Fifth Fleet facilities in Bahrain. The IRGC also said US attacks near Sirik would not weaken Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz and warned that US military bases across the region would “experience hell” in the coming days.

Iranian sources also reported that four aerial objects hit an area near Bandar-e Lengeh in southern Iran. Meanwhile, US officials said Iran launched missile and drone attacks toward Bahrain and Kuwait, but there were no reported US casualties and no major damage to US military facilities.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the US strikes, calling them a violation of the UN Charter and a previous US-Iran memorandum of understanding. Tehran urged the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to act, saying Iran would defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against what it described as US military aggression.
