RBI Forex Reserves Rise to $674.19 Billion; Bank Credit Expands

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on July 10, 2026, released the latest Bulletin Weekly Statistical Supplement – Extract, showing that India’s foreign exchange reserves stood at ₹64,20,602 crore (US$674.193 billion) as of July 3, 2026. During the week, total reserves increased by ₹1,26,095 crore (US$7.260 billion).

Foreign currency assets rose by ₹89,198 crore (US$4.510 billion) during the week to ₹51,95,747 crore (US$545.578 billion). Gold reserves increased by ₹34,180 crore (US$2.669 billion) to ₹10,01,911 crore (US$105.205 billion), while Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) rose by ₹2,209 crore (US$65 million) to ₹1,77,354 crore (US$18.623 billion). India’s reserve position in the IMF increased by ₹508 crore (US$15 million) to ₹45,589 crore (US$4.787 billion).

The RBI data also showed that aggregate deposits of scheduled commercial banks stood at ₹2,65,38,493 crore as of June 30, 2026. Deposits increased by ₹6,96,888 crore during the fortnight, ₹3,09,707 crore in FY 2026-27 so far, and ₹31,18,248 crore compared with a year earlier.

Bank credit stood at ₹2,19,28,365 crore as of June 30, 2026. Credit expanded by ₹3,81,249 crore during the fortnight, ₹5,68,468 crore in the current financial year, and ₹34,42,165 crore year on year. Food credit declined by ₹1,845 crore during the fortnight, while non-food credit increased by ₹3,83,094 crore.

According to the money stock data, M3 stood at ₹3,14,53,126 crore as of June 30, 2026. It declined by ₹66,958 crore during the fortnight but increased by ₹4,34,569 crore in FY 2026-27 so far and ₹36,57,240 crore from a year ago.

The weekly liquidity operations data showed the RBI conducted Variable Rate Repo (VRR) operations on June 29, June 30, and July 1, 2026, while Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) balances remained elevated through July 5. The bulletin also noted that, under the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025, the definition of a fortnight has been revised from alternate Fridays to the 15th and last calendar day of a month with effect from December 15, 2025.
