India’s Nifty 50 index reached 25,000 for the first time in 220 sessions since hitting 20,000 on September 11, 2023. The benchmark index surged nearly 25% during this period.
Ten stocks—Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, Tata Consultancy Services, State Bank of India, ONGC, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, NTPC, M&M, and Infosys—were responsible for 50% of the 5,000-point increase in Nifty’s market capitalization. Their combined market cap rose by Rs 23.29 lakh crore, accounting for over 53% of the overall gains. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries alone contributed over 8% each to the rally.
In contrast, the next eight stocks together contributed over 36.6% to the index’s rise. Four stocks—Bajaj Finance, Asian Paints, HDFC Bank, and IndusInd Bank—did not participate in this rally. The remaining 36 Nifty stocks saw gains of 1-3% during this period.
