The Ministry of Defence signed contracts worth approximately Rs 975 crore on April 21, 2026, for the procurement of TRAWL Assembly systems for T-72 and T-90 tanks. The agreements were signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The contracts have been awarded to Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics India Private Limited.

The TRAWL Assembly is a critical piece of equipment developed by DRDO. It is specifically designed to improve the Indian Army’s minefield breaching capability. This system allows tanks to safely clear paths through heavily mined areas, which is essential during combat operations.

One of the key advantages of this system is its ability to handle advanced anti-tank mines, including those equipped with proximity magnetic fuses. By neutralising such threats, the TRAWL system helps in creating vehicle-safe lanes, ensuring smoother and safer movement of troops and armored vehicles in hostile zones.

This procurement falls under the Buy Indian Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured category. It highlights the government’s continued focus on strengthening domestic defence manufacturing and reducing dependence on imports. The move is aligned with the larger goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The project is also expected to boost India’s industrial ecosystem. It will create direct and indirect employment opportunities, especially by supporting MSMEs involved in component manufacturing and supply chains related to defence production.

Overall, this deal is a significant step towards modernising India’s defence infrastructure while promoting indigenous innovation, enhancing operational readiness of the Indian Army, and strengthening the country’s self-reliance in the defence sector.
