Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Historic Visit to Kyiv for Talks with President Zelenskiy

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Kyiv to engage in discussions with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, as reported by senior lawmaker Oleksiy Honcharenko. This visit follows Modi’s recent meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, where he advocated for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

This trip is historically significant as it marks the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Ukraine since the country gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

India’s PM Modi told Ukraine’s Zelenskiy:

– India was never neutral during the war.

– We have always supported peace since the beginning of the conflict.

– I have come to Ukraine with a message of peace.

– We stand for respecting territorial integrity and sovereignty.

– The only way to resolve the conflict is through dialogue and diplomacy.

– We should start talks without delay and move towards peace.

– Indian Prime Minister Modi encouraged Ukraine’s President Zelenskiy to bring both sides together for conflict resolution, assuring that India is prepared to actively contribute to peace efforts.

– Modi also expressed his personal willingness to play any role as a friend to help foster peace.

India’s Foreign Minister in Kyiv:

– India does not have a political agenda when it comes to importing oil.

– The decision to buy Russian oil is driven by market considerations, not politics.

– India believes the ongoing conflict is harmful to the entire world.

– India hopes that Ukraine’s President Zelenskiy will visit India, as Prime Minister Modi has extended an invitation.

– India does not impose its own sanctions but respects U.N.-imposed sanctions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy says

“Alongside Indian Prime Minister Modi, we honored the children who lost their lives due to Russian aggression. Every child, regardless of their country, deserves to be safe. We must ensure this happens.”
