WPI Inflation July 2026 Eases to 9.78% From 9.87%

India’s WPI inflation July 2026 stood at 9.78% on a year on year basis, easing from 9.87% in June 2026, according to provisional estimates released by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry on 14 August 2026. The All Commodities WPI index declined to 110.0 in July from 110.2 in June.

WPI Inflation July 2026: Key Group-Wise Data

Inflation in Primary Articles increased to 8.52% in July from 7.0% in June. Fuel and Power inflation fell sharply to 20.05% from 27.41%, while inflation in Manufactured Products rose to 8.29% from 7.48%.

The Primary Articles index increased to 117.2 in July from 116.1 in June. The Fuel and Power index declined to 105.4 from 111.1, while the Manufactured Products index rose to 108.4 from 107.8.

Among the major groups, Mineral Oils, Food Articles, Manufacture of Basic Metals, Non-Food Articles, Manufacture of Food Products, and Manufacture of Chemicals and Chemical Products were identified as major drivers of WPI inflation in July 2026.

The WPI Food Index, which carries a weight of 24.99%, recorded year on year inflation of 6.65% in July, compared with 6.14% in June. The index includes Food Articles from Primary Articles and Manufacture of Food Products from Manufactured Products.

The final WPI index for May 2026 was revised to 110.1 from the provisional estimate of 109.9. Consequently, WPI inflation for May was revised to 9.88% from the provisional estimate of 9.68%. The final May estimate was compiled with a weighted response rate of 98.14%, while the July provisional estimate had a weighted response rate of 78.55%.

The July 2026 WPI release is based on the 2022-23 base year. The new WPI series became effective from June 2026 with the release of May 2026 data. Provisional WPI, Output PPI and trial Input PPI indices for August 2026 will be released on Monday, 14 September 2026.
