The Henley Passport Index for 2024 has been published, revealing France as the top-ranking nation, securing the first position. In this year’s rankings, India’s passport has slipped one place, moving from the 84th to the 85th position.

The Henley Passport Index evaluates countries based on the strength of their passports, measuring the number of visa-free entries they offer. France takes the lead in 2024, with its passport providing access to 194 countries without requiring a visa. Joining France at the top are Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain.

Despite recent announcements from Iran, Malaysia, and Thailand offering visa-free entry for Indian tourists, India has experienced a drop in the rankings. The Indian passport now holds the 85th position, down from the 84th place last year. On the other hand, Maldives, India’s neighboring country, maintains a robust passport ranking at 58th place, allowing Maldivian passport holders visa-free travel to 96 countries.

Pakistan maintains its standing at 106th place, unchanged from the previous year. However, Bangladesh has slipped from the 101st to the 102nd position in the rankings.

The Henley Passport Index bases its rankings on data spanning the last 19 years, utilizing specialized data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The data covers 199 different passports and 227 travel destinations worldwide, providing a comprehensive overview of passport strength.

In summary, France leads the 2024 Henley Passport Index, showcasing the strength of its passport with access to 194 countries. India, despite recent visa-free entry offers from certain countries, has seen a slight decline in its passport ranking, now standing at the 85th position. The rankings reflect the evolving landscape of global travel and passport privileges.
