An Iranian lawmaker, Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani, made a bold declaration regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities in response to recent warnings from the head of the United Nation’s atomic watchdog agency.
Ardestani stated that Iran currently possesses nuclear weapons, despite not publicly announcing it. He explained that while Iran’s policy is to possess nuclear bombs, they maintain compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as the Iran nuclear deal.
The JCPOA, from which the U.S. withdrew in 2018, aims to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons in exchange for economic sanctions relief.
Ardestani emphasized the strategic necessity for Iran to possess nuclear weapons, citing the need for compatibility with nations like the U.S. and Israel.
He pointed out the geopolitical context, including conflicts involving Russia, Ukraine, Israel, and Gaza, to justify Iran’s perceived need for nuclear capabilities.
Ardestani’s remarks underscored the complex dynamics surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and its stance on declaring its nuclear capabilities.
