Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said future talks with the United States will be held in two stages because of recent tensions and difficulties caused by the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the U.S. He said ending the war is the top priority.
The first stage of negotiations will focus on ending hostilities, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, releasing Iran’s frozen funds, and supporting post-war reconstruction efforts.
A second phase of talks will continue for 60 days and aims to reach a final agreement. This stage will cover Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of U.S. sanctions. New talks with the U.S. could begin on June 19 in Switzerland, although the exact location has not yet been confirmed.
Araghchi also said the war cannot officially end unless Israeli forces withdraw from territories they occupied during the conflict.
According to Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is set to participate in a signing ceremony in Switzerland for a temporary US-Iran ceasefire deal.
Iranian military officials said the country’s defenses remain strong. Army Commander Hatami stated that the army, navy, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are deployed along the entire Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman coastline, making it difficult for enemies to approach Iranian territory.
Meanwhile, Israeli leaders criticized the reported agreement. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said any deal supported by U.S. President Donald Trump does not bind Israel and insisted Israel must make its own security decisions. Defense Minister Israel Katz said Israeli forces will remain in security zones in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza for as long as needed and will respond strongly to any attacks. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called the Iran agreement harmful, saying Israel must continue efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and weaken the Iranian regime.
