India, U.S. Report Major Progress in Trade Deal Talks, Eye Interim Pact

U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer visited New Delhi from June 22–24 and led an official U.S. delegation for trade talks with India. The discussions are part of ongoing efforts to finalize an India–U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).

Greer held multiple rounds of meetings with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The talks focused on expanding market access, digital trade, supply chain resilience, and cooperation in key strategic sectors.

Both sides reviewed progress made by negotiating teams over recent months and noted that recent discussions have delivered significant progress toward a potential trade deal.

India and the United States also discussed reducing non-tariff barriers, addressing supply-chain challenges, and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

Officials said the current focus is on finding ways to reach an interim trade agreement, which would serve as an important milestone before a broader and more comprehensive Bilateral Trade Agreement is finalized.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to a balanced, commercially meaningful agreement that benefits businesses, farmers, workers, and consumers, while supporting stronger trade ties and trusted supply chains.
