Cabinet Secretary to Lead Discussion on Maharatna Status for HAL

The Cabinet Secretary, TV Somanathan, will chair a meeting on September 23 to consider elevating Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) from Navratna to Maharatna status. If granted, HAL will be able to invest up to Rs 5,000 crore or 15% of its net worth in a single project without requiring government approval. The last company to receive Maharatna status was Oil India in August 2020.
