Canadian authorities have made arrests in connection with an alleged hit squad believed to have been tasked by the government of India with assassinating prominent Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia, last June, as per CBC News sources.
The investigation, according to sources close to the matter, is also exploring potential connections to three other murders in Canada, including the tragic shooting death of an 11-year-old boy in Edmonton.
Members of the purported hit squad are said to have fulfilled various roles, including shooters, drivers, and spotters, on the day of Nijjar’s killing at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, as indicated by sources familiar with the investigation.
The arrests occurred during police operations spanning at least two provinces, following months of surveillance on the individuals identified as members of the alleged hit squad.
Kamalpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh, and Karan Brar are facing first-degree murder and conspiracy charges in connection with the Nijjar case, as stated in documents filed in a Surrey court on Friday. It’s important to note that these charges have yet to be proven in court.
Further details regarding the investigation are expected to be shared by authorities later on Friday.
