BMW introduced an incentive for prospective electric vehicle (EV) buyers, specifically targeting those considering a switch from a Tesla or certain other EV brands. This initiative, known as the BMW 2024 BEV Conquest Program, extends a $1,000 discount to new buyers of BMW i4, i5, and iX models. The unique aspect of this incentive lies in its focus on luring customers away from particular EV brands, aligning with common industry practices known as “conquest programs.”

According to communication between BMW and its US dealers obtained by Cars Direct, the German automaker has strategically chosen to exclude gas cars from this promotion, directing its efforts towards the growing market of electric vehicles. The $1,000 incentive is applicable to owners of select EV brands who decide to make the transition to one of BMW’s electric offerings. The list of eligible EVs includes models from prominent manufacturers such as Tesla, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, Rivian, Lucid, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and VW ID4.

While the program encompasses almost all electric vehicles, it becomes evident that BMW is particularly eyeing Tesla owners, who represent a substantial majority of EV enthusiasts in the United States. This move is in line with the broader trend within the automotive industry, where established brands seek to attract existing EV owners as they look to expand their electric vehicle portfolio. Notably, the $1,000 discount is reported to be combinable with other incentives, enhancing its appeal for potential BMW EV buyers.

The geographical scope of this promotion is limited to western states and is set to conclude on April 1, 2024. By offering this targeted incentive, BMW aims to strengthen its position in the competitive electric vehicle market, leveraging the popularity of certain EV brands to drive adoption of its own electric models. This strategic approach underscores the evolving landscape of the automotive industry, where manufacturers deploy inventive marketing tactics to capture the attention of a discerning and expanding audience of electric vehicle enthusiasts.
