India IIP Growth reaches 7.3% in June 2026 led by manufacturing and electricity sectors

India IIP Growth accelerated to 7.3% in June 2026, reflecting stronger industrial activity led by manufacturing and electricity production, according to the latest Quick Estimates of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on 28 July 2026. The latest reading improved from the 5.1% growth recorded in May 2026 under the Quick Estimate, indicating broad-based expansion across major industrial sectors.

The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) stood at 123.1 in June 2026 compared with 114.7 in June 2025. Sector-wise, Manufacturing recorded a 7.8% year-on-year increase, while Electricity & Gas Supply posted the strongest growth at 10.6%. Mining & Quarrying expanded by 1.0%, and Water Supply, Sewerage & Waste Management registered 6.1% growth during the month. The corresponding sectoral indices for June 2026 stood at 110.0 for Mining & Quarrying, 123.3 for Manufacturing, 131.0 for Electricity & Gas Supply, and 145.7 for Water Supply, Sewerage & Waste Management.

India IIP Growth Driven by Manufacturing and Capital Goods

The manufacturing sector remained the biggest contributor to India IIP Growth, with 19 out of 23 industry groups at the NIC 2-digit level reporting positive growth compared with June 2025. The top three performing industry groups were Manufacture of electrical equipment, which expanded 34.0%, Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, which grew 17.5%, and Manufacture of food products, which recorded 10.8% growth.

Within the Manufacture of electrical equipment category, key contributors included Electrical Apparatus for Switching or Protecting Electrical Circuits (such as Switchgear, Circuit Breakers/Switches, Control/Meter Panels and related parts), UPS and Solid-State Drives, and End-Face Connectors for Optical Fibres and Cables. In the Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers segment, the major contributors were Auto Components, Spares and Accessories, Passenger Cars, and Commercial Vehicles. Growth in the Manufacture of food products industry was supported by higher production of Tea, Rice (Other Than Basmati), and Starch, All Types.

The use-based classification also reflected healthy industrial activity during June 2026. The indices stood at 119.5 for Primary Goods, 140.5 for Capital Goods, 124.2 for Intermediate Goods, 132.9 for Infrastructure/Construction Goods, 119.8 for Consumer Durables, and 115.4 for Consumer Non-Durables. Compared with June 2025, Capital Goods recorded the highest growth at 14.2%, followed by Intermediate Goods at 9.3%, Consumer Durables at 7.7%, Infrastructure/Construction Goods at 7.5%, while both Primary Goods and Consumer Non-Durables registered 4.9% growth. Based on the use-based classification, the top three positive contributors to overall IIP growth during June 2026 were Intermediate Goods, Primary Goods, and Capital Goods.

The ministry also announced that, along with the Quick Estimates for June 2026, the May 2026 IIP figures have undergone final revision based on updated information received from source agencies. The Quick Estimates for June 2026 were compiled with a weighted response rate of 86.7%, while the final revised estimates for May 2026 were compiled with a weighted response rate of 93.1%. The IIP is released on the 28th of every month, or the next working day if the 28th is a holiday, using data received from producing factories and establishments through source agencies. The ministry said the estimates remain subject to revision under the IIP revision policy. The Index of Industrial Production for July 2026 is scheduled to be released on Friday, 28 August 2026.
