Venezuela’s National Electoral Council asserts that Nicolás Maduro secured the majority of votes in the presidential election.

Election Results: The presidential election results in Venezuela are showing that opposition candidate Edmundo González has won decisively against the incumbent Nicolás Maduro, who has been in power since 2013.

Election Intimidation: There have been numerous reports of election intimidation by members of Maduro’s party, targeting voters and attempting to influence the outcome.

Voter Suppression: Many Venezuelans living abroad have been denied entry into the country, preventing them from casting their votes in the election.

Claims of Fraud: Maduro’s party is alleging election fraud and interference, accusing several countries, including the United States, of influencing the election results.

International Support: U.S. politicians, such as Republican Senator Marco Rubio, have publicly supported the opposition voters, adding to the controversy surrounding the election.

The Venezuela Electoral Commission is now reporting that Nicolás Maduro has won a third term as president, with 80% of the votes counted. The Commission states that Maduro has secured 51.2% of the vote, while opposition candidate Edmundo González has received 44.2%. This result contrasts sharply with early polls, which had shown Maduro significantly trailing González.

After midnight on Monday, Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro declared that his re-election represents a victory for peace and stability. He also reaffirmed his campaign claim that Venezuela’s electoral system is transparent.

The results announced by the national electoral council are at odds with several exit polls, which indicated a clear victory for opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez.
