US-Iran negotiations have become increasingly difficult as both sides harden their positions on Tehran’s nuclear program and security in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Al Arabiya sources, Pakistan’s Interior Minister is currently in Tehran for fresh discussions as diplomatic efforts continue.
Sources said the United States has informed Pakistan that it will not offer concessions on its key nuclear demands or on requirements related to navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington is reportedly maintaining a firm stance on both issues.
The US has also intensified its demands regarding Iran’s nuclear activities and maritime security in the strategic waterway. At the same time, American officials have shown only limited flexibility on sanctions relief measures.
Iran, however, remains unconvinced by US assurances and guarantees aimed at preventing a renewed conflict in the future. This lack of trust continues to be a major obstacle in reaching an agreement.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said that 26 commercial vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz during the last 24 hours. The ships included oil tankers, container vessels and other commercial cargo ships.
The IRGC stated that maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains active and uninterrupted. According to the force, vessels are continuing to transit the waterway after obtaining the necessary permits and coordinating with the IRGC Navy.
Separately, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said an AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter from the US Marine Corps is conducting patrols near commercial vessels in regional waters. CENTCOM added that American forces are enforcing a maritime blockade against Iran and, as of May 20, have redirected 90 ships and disabled four vessels to ensure compliance with the restrictions.
