Trump Hints at New Trade Deals Coming Soon: Relief May Be on the Way for Some Countries

U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that new trade agreements with certain countries could be announced within days. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump hinted at progress in negotiations without naming any specific nations.

“We’re in talks with a lot of countries,” Trump said. “But in the end, I’m the one who makes the deal — not them. It’s up to me.” He noted that discussions are ongoing, and agreements could happen quickly.

Trump emphasized that while talks are active, his administration holds the final say in setting terms. “People keep asking when deals will be made. I’ll decide that — not the other side,” he added.

The president also mentioned ongoing communication with Chinese officials. China has been a major focus of the U.S. trade agenda under Trump’s leadership. “We are having back-and-forth discussions,” Trump said, pointing to the complex trade relationship between the two economic giants.

In the coming weeks, Trump said he plans to announce new tariff measures. “Soon, maybe within two to three weeks, I’ll announce a tariff figure,” he stated. “There are countries that have benefited from large trade surpluses with us. We know how they’ve been taking advantage, and now we’re addressing it.”

Trump’s aggressive trade stance has created uncertainty in global markets. Investors have reacted sharply to shifting tariff threats and trade negotiations, raising concerns about a potential economic slowdown. The U.S. dollar has also faced pressure as a result of the ongoing tensions.

Recent government data added to the concern. The Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that the U.S. economy shrank for the first time in three years — a possible early sign of trouble.

Still, Trump believes that his strategy will lead to fairer trade. “We’re protecting American interests,” he said. “That’s the goal of these deals.”
