OpenAI’s ChatGPT Faces Global Outage, Users Struggle to Access Service

OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, has been experiencing a global outage, leaving users unable to access the service through both its web platform and mobile app. There have also been reports of issues when using the chatbot on the social media platform X. According to the outage tracking website Downdetector, over a thousand users have reported problems with the service, indicating widespread disruptions.

OpenAI Acknowledges the Problem

OpenAI has confirmed the outage on its official Status page. The page mentions that both ChatGPT and its API are facing “Degraded performance.” Additionally, OpenAI has posted a message stating, “We are currently experiencing elevated error rates in the API. We are currently investigating.”

Ongoing Investigation and Updates

Despite acknowledging the issue, OpenAI has not yet disclosed the specific cause of the outage. The company has provided a couple of updates on the matter, stating that investigations are still ongoing.

When Did the Outage Start?

According to reports from Downdetector, the outage began around 5 PM IST earlier today and has continued throughout the day. Of the user complaints received, approximately 88% reported being unable to access the ChatGPT tool, while the remaining users mentioned difficulties with the website and API.

Cause of the Outage Still Unknown

OpenAI has yet to reveal the precise cause behind the disruption. Users are eagerly waiting for updates as the company works to resolve the issue.
