North Korea Fires Multiple Unidentified Ballistic Missiles, Says South Korea

South Korea’s military reported on Monday that North Korea had launched multiple unidentified ballistic missiles.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said that at least two missiles were fired from North Korea’s Hwanghae Province in the west. However, details like the type of missiles or the exact number launched were not yet known.

As the U.S. and South Korea began their Freedom Shield military exercises, North Korea responded by launching several ballistic missiles into the Yellow Sea. This is a common reaction from Pyongyang when it feels overlooked.

The missiles were fired from Hwanghae Province at 1:50 p.m. Meanwhile, North Korea’s state media criticized the drills, calling them a hostile and provocative act of war preparation.
