CAQM enforcement across the National Capital Region was reviewed after the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) assessed inspection, compliance and action taken across key sectors.
The review was conducted at the 138th meeting of the Enforcement Task Force (ETF), held on August 31, 2026. It covered the reporting period from August 8 to August 23, during which CAQM Flying Squads carried out 121 inspections across NCR.
Of these inspections, 10 covered Construction and Demolition (C&D) sites, 56 were conducted in the industrial sector and 20 focused on diesel generator (DG) sets. Based on reported violations, proposals were made for closure of four C&D projects or industries, sealing of 17 DG sets, seven compliance orders or directions and Environmental Compensation (EC) in five cases.
Compliance Actions Across NCR
The ETF also examined follow-up action from its 137th meeting. CAQM said all actionable cases involving industrial units, C&D activities and DG sets had been acted upon.
After compliance verification, nine resumption orders were issued. These covered two industrial units and seven C&D projects. Of the nine orders, one was issued in Delhi, six in Haryana and two in Uttar Pradesh.
CAQM also reviewed its cumulative CAQM enforcement record as of August 31, 2026. Flying Squads had conducted inspections at 28,397 units, projects and entities across NCR. These inspections resulted in 1,823 Closure Directions, with 1,473 Resumption Orders issued after compliance verification.
A further 126 cases were transferred to the respective State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) or the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) for final decisions, while 224 entities remained under examination for resumption orders.
The Commission stressed the need for stronger enforcement, timely verification of compliance and closer coordination among implementing agencies. It also called for continued inspections and strict compliance monitoring across industrial units, C&D activities, DG sets and road works to support air pollution mitigation across NCR.
