President Trump Responds to Texas Flooding
President Donald J. Trump has signed a Major Disaster Declaration for Kerr County, Texas, after deadly flash floods hit the region. This step is meant to ensure that first responders have the resources they need right away. President Trump said that the situation is heartbreaking, with many lives lost and others still missing.
He also confirmed that the Trump Administration is working closely with state and local leaders. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited the area with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who is leading the state’s response. Over 850 people have already been rescued thanks to the efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard and state first responders.
Flash Floods Cause Devastation in Central Texas
The disaster began on Friday, July 4th, when heavy rains caused the Guadalupe River to overflow. The river rose 26 feet in just 45 minutes, sweeping away cars, homes, and people. A girls’ summer camp near the river was especially hard-hit.
Rescue teams are searching for 27 girls who went missing from the camp. So far, at least 52 people have died, including 15 children. Officials fear the death toll may rise further. Many survivors were found clinging to trees or rooftops.
Emergency Crews Working Day and Night
More than 850 people have been rescued since the floods began. Air, land, and water rescue teams are searching every part of the Guadalupe River. Texas Department of Emergency Management chief Nim Kidd said, “We will not stop until everyone is found.”
Governor Greg Abbott said he is expanding the state’s disaster declaration and is requesting more help from the federal government.
Danger Not Over Yet: More Rain Predicted
The National Weather Service has warned that more rain is expected. Flash flood warnings remain in place across Central Texas. More rain could cause further flooding in rivers, streams, and low-lying areas.
In Kerrville, the usually calm Guadalupe River is still dangerous. The water is muddy and full of debris.
A Race Against Time
Officials say there is “no cap” on the number of people still missing. The rescue mission is now a race against both time and weather.
Local authorities and volunteers continue to work nonstop, hoping to find survivors before more rain arrives.
Final Note
This is one of the worst natural disasters to hit Texas in recent years. The people of Texas are showing great courage during this tragedy. President Trump said it best:
“GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS TEXAS.”
