Russia is set to conduct exercises involving tactical nuclear weapons, as reported by Tass.
The Russian Defense Ministry has declared its intention to conduct an exercise that encompasses the preparation and utilization of tactical nuclear weapons.
Under the directive of President Putin, the Russian General Staff is initiating preparations for this exercise, which will involve missile units from the Southern Military District as well as naval forces.
The exercise will entail various practical tasks related to the readiness, deployment, and potential use of non-strategic nuclear weapons, as stated by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Its primary objective is to ensure the continual readiness of personnel and equipment for the operational deployment of non-strategic nuclear weapons.
This readiness is aimed at providing a resolute response to perceived provocations and threats against Russia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, particularly from certain Western officials.
Kremlin stated that Russia’s upcoming nuclear weapons drills were a direct response to recent comments made by various leaders, particularly French President Emmanuel Macron, regarding the potential deployment of troops to Ukraine.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, specified that the remarks made by Mr. Macron and British representatives were the main catalysts for the decision to conduct the drills.
Peskov emphasized that the situation marked a significant escalation in tensions, warranting the implementation of special measures by Russia.
Recently, Democratic Leader of the US House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, has indicated that the possibility of the US sending troops to Ukraine cannot be dismissed if Kiev faces defeat in the ongoing conflict.
