Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released its latest RBI Bulletin August 2026 data, including the Weekly Statistical Supplement extract and sectoral credit data for non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) for June 2026. NBFC credit grew 14.4% year-on-year in June 2026, compared with 11.1% a year earlier. The release also covered foreign exchange reserves as of Jul. 31, 2026, scheduled commercial bank business as of Jul. 15, 2026, money stock data as of Jul. 15, 2026, and RBI liquidity operations from 27-Jul-26 to 02-Aug-26.
RBI Bulletin August 2026: NBFC Credit Growth
NBFC credit to agriculture and allied activities grew 17.9% y-o-y in June 2026, against 5.1% a year ago. Credit to industry grew 6.7%, compared with 10.3% in June 2025, with moderation primarily driven by subdued growth in infrastructure. Services-sector credit growth moderated to 17.6% from 22.4% a year earlier. Credit in commercial real estate recorded buoyant expansion, while trade and transport operators saw moderation. Retail loan growth accelerated to 20.3% from 14.3%, with housing, vehicle and loans against gold jewellery showing robust credit growth.
Foreign exchange reserves stood at ₹66,12,148 crore, or US$692,866 million, as on Jul. 31, 2026. Reserves rose ₹24,233 crore or US$10,512 million over the week, ₹58,287 crore or US$1,758 million from end-March 2026, and ₹5,81,731 crore or US$3,995 million year-on-year. Foreign Currency Assets were ₹53,88,865 crore or US$564,680 million; gold was ₹9,99,586 crore or US$104,743 million; SDRs were ₹1,78,132 crore or US$18,666 million; and the Reserve Position in the IMF was ₹45,566 crore or US$4,778 million. Weekly changes were ₹21,541 crore, ₹4,597 crore, -₹1,614 crore and -₹291 crore, respectively.
Scheduled commercial banks reported aggregate deposits of ₹2,62,84,574 crore as on Jul. 15, 2026, down ₹2,59,710 crore over the fortnight. Bank credit stood at ₹2,17,33,383 crore, down ₹1,97,015 crore. Year-on-year bank credit growth was 17.7% in 2026, compared with 9.9% in 2025. Non-food credit stood at ₹2,16,12,652 crore, while food credit was ₹1,20,730 crore. Aggregate deposit growth was 12.7% y-o-y in 2026, compared with 10.1% in 2025. Demand deposits stood at ₹31,91,601 crore and time deposits at ₹2,30,92,973 crore.
Money stock data in the RBI Bulletin August 2026 showed M3 at ₹3,16,46,426 crore as on Jul. 15, 2026, compared with ₹3,14,53,126 crore on Mar. 31, 2026. M3 rose 0.6% during 2026-27 so far and 12.5% year-on-year in 2026. Currency with the public stood at ₹42,12,008 crore, demand deposits with banks at ₹33,44,685 crore, time deposits with banks at ₹2,39,68,560 crore and other deposits with the Reserve Bank at ₹1,21,173 crore. Net bank credit to government was ₹93,45,605 crore, while bank credit to the commercial sector was ₹2,25,83,517 crore.
RBI liquidity operations showed variable-rate repo of ₹12,720 crore on 27-Jul-26 and ₹50,020 crore on 29-Jul-26. SDF absorption was ₹1,28,685 crore, ₹1,32,746 crore, ₹1,92,111 crore, ₹1,43,691 crore, ₹2,46,516 crore, ₹2,02,941 crore and ₹1,84,297 crore from 27-Jul-26 through 02-Aug-26, while net liquidity absorption was ₹1,13,227 crore, ₹1,32,654 crore, ₹1,41,996 crore, ₹1,43,082 crore, ₹2,45,912 crore, ₹2,02,669 crore and ₹1,84,045 crore, respectively. The supplement also showed loans to state governments at ₹17,100 crore, down ₹7,097 crore over the week and ₹15,133 crore year-on-year. The data are provisional, with differences, if any, due to rounding off.
The RBI said the data include the impact of the merger of a non-bank with a bank w.e.f. July 1, 2023. As per the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025, the definition of fortnight was revised from alternate Fridays to the 15th and last calendar day of a month, w.e.f. December 15, 2025. The foreign exchange reserve data exclude SDR holdings of the Reserve Bank, investment in bonds issued by IIFC (UK), amounts lent under SAARC and ACU currency swap arrangements, and RBI’s contribution to funding of Nexus Global Payments.
