Prisoners Seize Control of IK-19 Penal Colony in Volgograd; Hostage Situation and Demands Unfold

Prisoners have taken control of the IK-19 penal colony in Volgograd, Russia. The situation is currently unfolding as the detainees have overpowered the facility’s security and staff.

The Russian Federal Penitentiary Service is actively conducting an operation to rescue the hostages taken by the prisoners. The effort is focused on regaining control of the penal colony and ensuring the safety of the captives.

Reports indicate that several prison guards have been killed during the uprising, with up to five additional guards being held hostage by the inmates. The situation remains critical as negotiations and rescue operations continue.

According to Baza, a Russian media outlet, the confirmed death toll of prison guards currently stands at three. However, there are fears that the actual number of fatalities may be significantly higher as the situation evolves.

The radicals who have taken control of the penal colony and the hostages are demanding a ransom of $2 million and a helicopter. This demand has been reported by Readovka, a Russian media source, highlighting the seriousness of the situation and the inmates’ leverage.

Radical ISIS prisoners in the men’s maximum-security penal colony IK-19 in Surovikino, Volgograd Region, launched an attack during a disciplinary commission meeting and took prison officers hostage.

According to official data, 1,241 inmates are held in the colony.

The colony’s head, Andrei Devyatov, is in intensive care, along with three others who have also been hospitalized. Media reports show that the radicals slit the throats of their victims, with at least two prison officers suffering this horrific fate, as seen in footage from the colony.

Special forces are preparing to storm the prison.
