Pakistan and China Emphasize Regional Cooperation and Stability at SCO Meeting

Pakistan’s Prime Minister stated that for the region to fully benefit from trade opportunities, Afghanistan must remain stable. He called on Afghanistan to ensure that no group uses its land to harm neighboring countries.

The Prime Minister suggested expanding China’s Belt and Road Initiative to boost regional cooperation. Pakistan proposed an alternative mechanism for development funding within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

China and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to jointly build growth corridors to enhance economic ties. Both countries agreed to develop an upgraded version of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor for greater collaboration.

China and Pakistan will continue accelerating the construction of facilities at Gwadar Port and address issues such as water and electricity supply. China reaffirmed its support for Chinese companies to invest and establish businesses in Pakistan’s special economic zones based on market principles.

Both countries will promote agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and China’s Xinjiang region. China stressed the need for stronger security measures in Pakistan to create a safe environment for cooperation.

China and Pakistan will work together to encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Pakistan’s mining sector. Both countries agreed to raise the level of military exercises, training, and technical cooperation. They also agreed to strengthen their counter-terrorism collaboration to improve regional security.
