The OPEC India Energy Dialogue held its seventh high level meeting in New Delhi on September 22, 2026, with discussions centred on oil market stability, energy security and investment across the oil industry.

The meeting was co chaired by Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), according to the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

India and OPEC Discuss Energy Security and Investment

The two sides reviewed short, medium and long term developments in the oil market. They also highlighted the need for adequate and timely investment across the oil industry and discussed India’s role in global economic expansion and future energy demand.

Puri said India and OPEC have a complementary relationship and stressed the importance of continued dialogue between energy producers and consumers. He said sustained engagement can support investment, strengthen energy resilience and help ensure reliable energy supplies for global growth and development.

He also called for closer cooperation between India and OPEC to support a balanced, stable and predictable global energy market amid geopolitical uncertainty and market volatility.

OPEC Calls India Dialogue a Priority

Al Ghais said engagement with India is a priority for OPEC because of the country’s importance in the global energy landscape, which he said will increase in the coming decades.

He noted that the OPEC India Energy Dialogue has been running for 11 years since its launch in New Delhi in 2015. Al Ghais also highlighted India’s approach to energy challenges and said many of the country’s energy priorities align with those of OPEC.

The meeting reviewed progress under the dialogue, including technical level cooperation. Both sides agreed on the importance of deeper energy cooperation, with the eighth High Level Meeting of the OPEC India Energy Dialogue set to take place in Vienna, Austria, on a mutually convenient date.
