China Opens Antitrust Investigation Into Nvidia

Nvidia Faces DOJ Antitrust Probe, Stock Plunges Over 9%, Erasing $360 Billion in Market Value

China’s market regulator has launched an antitrust investigation into Nvidia, examining possible breaches of the country’s antimonopoly laws. This adds to Nvidia’s ongoing regulatory issues, including a probe by the U.S. Department of Justice into its market practices. The results of these investigations could have a major effect on Nvidia’s operations and the wider AI chip sector.

China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has launched an antitrust investigation into Nvidia over alleged monopoly practices, according to local media reports.

Nvidia earns significant revenue from China, with the country contributing 15% of its data center revenue ($4.5 billion in Q3) and 13% of its total Q3 sales.

Notably, this comes just weeks after China expressed support for Nvidia and promised to improve the business environment for foreign companies operating in the country.
