Indian Navy Warship Rescues Nine Crew Members from Capsized Oil Tanker off Oman Coast

On Wednesday, India’s navy reported that one of its warships successfully rescued nine out of 16 crew members from an oil tanker that overturned near the coast of Oman earlier this week.The navy stated, “INS Teg, a warship, has rescued 09 personnel (08 Indians & 01 Sri Lankan).”

The “Prestige Falcon,” a 117-meter oil product tanker, was en route to Yemen’s Aden port with a crew comprising 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans when it capsized near Oman’s key industrial hub of Duqm.

As of Wednesday, Indian Navy spokesperson confirmed the rescue of eight Indians and one Sri Lankan crew member.

Officials noted that search and rescue operations, conducted jointly by Indian and Omani assets, are challenged by adverse weather conditions including rough seas and strong winds.

The Indian government affirmed ongoing efforts to locate the remaining crew members in the vicinity.- Duqm port, situated on Oman’s southwest coast, is strategically positioned near significant oil and gas extraction projects.
