India’s installed wind power capacity reached 57,443 MW as of June 30, 2026, while wind energy generation during FY 2025-26 rose to 106.699 billion units (106,699 MUs), according to information shared by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The data was provided by Union Minister of State for MNRE Shri Shripad Yesso Naik in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
The ministry said India added 6,057 MW of new wind power capacity during FY 2025-26, compared with 4,151 MW in FY 2024-25 and 3,253 MW in FY 2023-24. Wind power generation stood at 83 billion units in both FY 2023-24 and FY 2024-25 before increasing to 106 billion units in FY 2025-26. As per the GWEC Report 2026, India ranked fourth globally in wind energy installations till December 31, 2025.
State-wise, Gujarat led the country with 16,086 MW of installed wind power capacity, followed by Tamil Nadu (12,273 MW), Karnataka (8,896 MW), Maharashtra (6,318 MW), Rajasthan (5,516 MW), Andhra Pradesh (4,461 MW) and Madhya Pradesh (3,686 MW). Telangana (128 MW), Kerala (71 MW) and Others (4 MW) accounted for the remaining capacity.
In terms of power generation during FY 2025-26, Gujarat produced 33,706 MUs, followed by Tamil Nadu (24,200 MUs), Karnataka (18,804 MUs), Andhra Pradesh (8,902 MUs), Maharashtra (8,610 MUs), Rajasthan (7,345 MUs), Madhya Pradesh (4,706 MUs), Telangana (292 MUs) and Kerala (130 MUs), taking the national total to 106,699 MUs.
The government said it has taken several measures to promote wind energy, including funding transmission infrastructure under the Green Energy Corridor Scheme, waiving Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) charges for eligible wind and solar projects, notifying the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) and Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO) trajectory till 2029-30, issuing revised bidding guidelines for renewable energy projects, launching the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) Scheme for offshore wind projects, and notifying the National Repowering and Life Extension Policy for Wind Power Projects, 2023, Offshore Wind Energy Lease Rules, 2023, and revised guidelines for prototype wind turbine models on June 12, 2025. The ministry also highlighted the Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022, the Green Term Ahead Market (GTAM), and measures to ensure timely payments to renewable energy generators.
