India US Treasury Holdings Rise to $202.6 Billion in July 2026

India US Treasury holdings increased to $202.6 billion at the end of July 2026, up from $186.4 billion in June, according to the US Treasury Department’s latest data on major foreign holders of Treasury securities. Despite the monthly rise, India’s holdings remained below the $219.7 billion recorded at the end of July 2025.

Japan Remains Largest Foreign Holder

Japan continued to have the largest holdings among foreign holders, with $1.1039 trillion in US Treasury securities in July 2026. Its holdings increased from $1.1167 trillion in June but remained below $1.1554 trillion a year earlier.

The United Kingdom ranked second with $998.3 billion, compared with $939.9 billion in June and $895.9 billion in July 2025. China, Mainland held $618.0 billion, down from $633.4 billion in June and $695.6 billion a year earlier.

Other major holders included Belgium at $470.7 billion, the Cayman Islands at $460.1 billion, Luxembourg at $442.1 billion, Canada at $426.3 billion and Ireland at $350.2 billion.

France held $348.4 billion, Taiwan $296.1 billion, Switzerland $284.8 billion, Singapore $277.7 billion and Hong Kong $258.3 billion.

India’s Treasury Holdings in July 2026

India’s holdings stood at $202.6 billion in July, compared with $186.4 billion in June, $181.3 billion in May and $181.0 billion in April 2026.

The July figure was also higher than the $183.0 billion recorded in March, $190.6 billion in February and $190.4 billion in January. However, it was below the levels reported during the second half of 2025, including $202.7 billion in September, $219.4 billion in August and $219.7 billion in July.

Across all foreign holders, the Grand Total stood at $9.2481 trillion in July 2026, compared with $9.2985 trillion in June.

The table also showed $3.7731 trillion in foreign official holdings. Of this, foreign official Treasury bills accounted for $354.4 billion, while foreign official Treasury bonds and notes accounted for $3.4188 trillion.
