India’s AI Revolution: Rising as the Third Global Power

India Is Becoming a Key Player in AI

The global race to develop powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems has mostly focused on two giants — the United States and China. But now, India is rising as a third major force, according to Gunjan Samtani, Co-Chairman of Goldman Sachs India, and George Lee, Co-Head of the Goldman Sachs Global Institute.

> “While it may not yet lead in foundational research or hardware innovation, India’s leading role in AI deployment—across global enterprises and sectors—is irrefutable,” — Gunjan Samtani & George Lee, Goldman Sachs

Why India Is Well-Positioned for the AI Boom

India has many strengths that support its growth in the AI sector:

Fastest Growing Major Economy:
India’s GDP is expected to grow 6.6% in 2025, as per Goldman Sachs Research (July 11, 2025).

Strong IT and Services Industry:
India has a $250 billion IT and business services sector, which makes it ideal for large-scale AI adoption.

Global Capability Centers (GCCs):
India is home to over 1,700 GCCs, which help global companies manage their technology and operations.

These GCCs are expected to grow into a $110 billion industry by 2030, according to Goldman Sachs Global Institute.

What India Needs to Focus On

To fully become a global AI leader, India must take some important steps. As highlighted by Samtani and Lee:

1. Build Skilled Talent
India needs to train more AI engineers, data scientists, and tech professionals to meet rising demand.

2. Handle Global Trade Challenges
With changing global trade policies, India must be ready to manage friction in international business.

3. Invest in Innovation
India should spend more on research, innovation, and patents to create its own cutting-edge AI solutions.

Final Words

India may not be leading in AI hardware or core research yet, but it is already a global leader in using and deploying AI. With its booming economy, tech infrastructure, and strong global partnerships, India is becoming one of the most important players in the world of AI.
