Global Tech Outage Linked to CrowdStrike Update Disrupts 8.5 Million Microsoft Devices and Causes Widespread Travel Delays

A global tech outage related to a software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike impacted nearly 8.5 million Microsoft devices, according to a blog post by Microsoft on Saturday.

Microsoft estimated that the CrowdStrike update affected 8.5 million Windows devices, which represents less than one percent of all Windows machines.

To address the issue, CrowdStrike has developed a scalable solution to help accelerate repairs for Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure.

Microsoft also collaborated with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to find the most effective solutions to the problem.

The outage caused widespread disruptions for air passengers, resulting in delays, flight cancellations, and difficulties with check-ins as airports and airlines were affected.

The tech outage impacted a range of industries, including banks and media companies.
