Election Commission to Announce Assembly Poll Schedule for Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand

The Election Commission of India will announce the assembly election schedule for Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand.

Haryana’s and Maharashtra’s assemblies are set to expire on November 3 and November 26, respectively, while Jharkhand’s term ends in January.

Jharkhand will hold Assembly elections soon, as the term of its legislative assembly concludes on January 5, 2025.

Elections in Jammu and Kashmir must be held before the Supreme Court’s September 30 deadline.

Jammu and Kashmir features 90 Assembly constituencies with an electorate of 87.09 lakh, including 44.46 lakh males, 44.62 lakh females, and 169 transgenders.

The voter base includes 82,590 persons with disabilities, 73,943 senior citizens, 2,660 centenarians, 76,092 service voters, and 3.71 lakh first-time voters.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar stated, “We met with political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, and all expressed a desire for the elections to be conducted as soon as possible.”

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is announcing the schedule for the state Legislative Assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

Both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir have 90 assembly seats each. Elections are also due later this year in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and these two states.

The ECI has revealed the election dates for Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir today, with schedules for Maharashtra and Jharkhand expected to be announced later.

The commission recently visited Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana to review election preparations for 2024, but has yet to visit Maharashtra, led by Eknath Shinde, or Jharkhand, governed by Hemant Soren.

According to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Jammu and Kashmir will conduct its elections in three phases, beginning on September 18, with additional voting on September 25 and October 1. The results will be announced on October 4. In contrast, Haryana will have a single-phase election on October 1, with results also declared on October 4.
