The Election Commission of India (ECI) has reportedly instructed the removal of the Home Secretary in six states: Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, with only a month remaining until the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Additionally, as per an ANI report, the Secretaries of the General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh have been relieved of their duties. The report also suggests that measures are being taken to replace the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal, as per information obtained.

According to sources reported by ANI, the ECI has also removed Iqbal Singh Chahal, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner, along with several Additional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners. Additionally, the Secretaries of GAD in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh, who were serving in their respective Chief Minister’s Offices, have been ousted.

The Chief Election Commissioner announced during the ECI press briefing on March 16 that the 18th Lok Sabha elections, comprising 543 seats, will be conducted in seven phases beginning on April 19. The results are set to be declared on June 4.
