Presently, the United States is grappling with a Internet outage that has unleashed widespread disruptions across major social platforms. Facebook, the flagship of Meta, has reported over 300,000 outages, with users encountering issues such as a “failure to load” message, as indicated by DownDetector. Simultaneously, Instagram, another key platform owned by Meta, has logged more than 47,000 outage reports.

Tuesday morning saw users on both Facebook and Instagram receiving notifications about service outages, marking one of the most substantial disruptions for Meta in recent years. The cause behind this outage remains elusive, adding to the challenge of resolving the issue promptly. Downdetector, a global outage monitoring platform, has highlighted the global impact, identifying over 90,000 Facebook outages and 16,000 Instagram issues.

This unexpected outage has led frustrated users to seek alternative platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to voice their complaints and concerns. The technical team at Meta is reportedly working tirelessly to rectify the glitch and restore normalcy to the affected platforms. However, the extent and duration of the outage raise questions about the resilience of these major social networks.

Beyond Facebook and Instagram, the ripple effect of this cyber attack extends to other Meta-owned services, with outages reported on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. META has resorted to utilizing X to announce the worldwide nature of the outage on Facebook and Instagram.
