A German military base in Cologne is on lockdown because of possible sabotage. There’s a chance the water supply might be contaminated.
The Bundeswehr barracks in Cologne-Wahn were completely sealed off on Wednesday morning. According to SPIEGEL, the police, military police, and the Bundeswehr’s military counterintelligence service are looking into the possibility of sabotage. The base might have been broken into.
The tap water at the base might be unsafe. Soldiers and civilians were told not to drink the water under any circumstances. No new soldiers are being allowed into the base.
According to the magazine, the tap water on the base, which houses 4,300 soldiers and 1,200 civilian employees, might have been contaminated after an unauthorized entry into the premises adjacent to Cologne airport. Police, military police, and the military intelligence agency MAD are investigating the matter.
The defence ministry in Berlin and the military intelligence agency MAD were not immediately available for comment. Police in Cologne said they could not comment.
