The Ministry of Mines will launch the second tranche of limestone block auctions in Jammu & Kashmir on May 12, 2026, in Srinagar. The move aims to boost industrial development and unlock the region’s mineral potential.
Under the new tranche, 12 limestone blocks will be offered for auction in partnership with the Jammu & Kashmir government. The blocks are located in Anantnag, Rajouri, and Poonch districts.
The auction includes both newly identified limestone blocks and blocks being re auctioned in a second attempt. The government said this is being done to ensure better use of mineral resources and continued industry participation.
The launch event in Srinagar will be attended by Piyush Goyal, Secretary at the Ministry of Mines. Jammu & Kashmir Additional Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar and other senior officials will also participate.
Officials said the limestone reserves fall under UNFC G3 and G4 exploration categories, indicating strong geological potential and industrial grade deposits.
The limestone resources are important for sectors such as cement, construction, and infrastructure. The government expects these projects to support industrial expansion and economic activity in the Union Territory.
The auction process is being conducted under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and Mineral Auction Rules, 2015. Bidding will take place through a transparent digital e auction platform.
The Ministry of Mines said successful operationalization of these blocks could increase government revenue, create jobs, encourage sustainable mining, and support long term economic growth in Jammu & Kashmir.
