World Bank Grants $108 Million Boost to Improve Roads and Tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The World Bank has approved $108 million in additional funding to support two important projects in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. This includes $78 million for the Rural Accessibility Project and $30 million for the Integrated Tourism Development Project. The funding aims to improve access to health services, education, markets, and jobs, while also strengthening resilience against natural disasters.

Najy Benhassine, the World Bank Country Director for Pakistan, said the projects are playing a key role in building stronger rural infrastructure and boosting disaster preparedness. He added that better roads and tourism development are helping communities access vital services, supporting local economies, and creating new job opportunities.

The $78 million granted to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Accessibility Project (KPRAP) will focus on upgrading and repairing rural roads. These improvements will make it easier for residents to reach schools, hospitals, and marketplaces. Special efforts are also being made to ensure safe and affordable transport options for school-going girls.

It is estimated that around 1.76 million people will directly benefit from the improved road network and services once the project is completed.
