President Trump, Putin Hold Key Talks on Ukraine Strikes and Iran’s Nuclear Program

U.S. President Donald J. Trump held a 75-minute phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss rising global tensions, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and Iran’s nuclear plans.

President Trump said the two leaders spoke about the recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian docked aircraft and other incidents involving both sides. He described the discussion as “good,” but clarified that it was not the kind of conversation that would immediately result in peace.

According to Trump, President Putin stated firmly that Russia would respond to the airfield attacks. The two also addressed growing concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Trump emphasized the urgency of the situation, saying Iran is taking too long to make a final decision about its nuclear weapons program.

Trump told Putin that Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, a position both leaders appeared to agree on. Putin reportedly offered to participate in negotiations with Iran to help bring the matter to a conclusion quickly.

President Trump criticized Iran’s delay in addressing the issue and stressed the need for a clear and prompt resolution. “We will need a definitive answer in a very short period of time,” he said.

The call underscores the high-stakes diplomacy unfolding amid multiple international security threats.
