In a rare show of bipartisan agreement, President Donald Trump has publicly supported a proposal by Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren to eliminate the U.S. debt ceiling entirely. In a recent statement, President Trump said the debt limit poses a serious risk to the U.S. economy and should no longer be used as a political tool.
Calling it a threat of “economic catastrophe,” President Trump warned that the debt ceiling gives too much power to political figures who could misuse it, potentially harming not just the United States, but global markets as well.
Trump also expressed support for Warren’s proposal involving a $4 trillion investment in national priorities, though he added that such spending should be rolled out gradually but swiftly. “I like that also, but it would have to be done over a period of time, as short as possible,” he noted.
Urging lawmakers from both parties to take immediate action, the President said, “Let’s get together, Republican and Democrat, and DO THIS!”
This development marks a notable moment of unity on a key financial issue and reflects growing concerns over the impact of recurring debt ceiling standoffs on the country’s economic stability.
