Pakistan Warns of Imminent Indian Attack, Urges Restraint on Nuclear Weapons

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has warned that an Indian military incursion is likely very soon. Speaking to Reuters, Asif said Pakistan has strengthened its forces after being briefed by the military about a possible Indian attack. He mentioned that India’s aggressive statements are increasing tensions between the two countries but did not share detailed reasons for expecting an imminent attack.

Asif added that Pakistan is on high alert and ready to defend itself. However, he stressed that Pakistan would only consider using its nuclear weapons if there were a direct threat to its survival. In a normal armed conflict, he said, both India and Pakistan must avoid using nuclear options to prevent further escalation.

The warning comes after a terrorist attack on tourists in Kashmir last week, which has further strained relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
